IHT rates ‘hot potato’ as UK double EU average

Money Marketing reports “Advisers have labelled inheritance tax rates as a “contentious subject” and reoccurring political “hot potato” as new research reveals the UK rates are more than double the EU average.

On average, individuals in the UK pay 23.9 per cent (£564,523) in inheritance tax when passing on an estate worth £2.4m to their beneficiary, according to research by accountancy network UHY International. In comparison, individuals in the EU pay an average of 10.3 per cent (£243,297) on an estate of the same size.” Read more
