A former professional sportsman has proved that there is life after the game by succeeding in a new career.

New Zealand-born former semi-professional cricketer Stuart Startup joined forces with Matthew Quinn eight years ago to launch Cotswold Independent Financial Services. Each of them had over 20 years’ experience in the industry.

The firm has expanded into larger premises in Earlsdon and now employs a team of 10.

“We started the business at a time when the UK’s financial services sector was struggling with both its function and image so we are delighted with our progress, tripling turnover since our launch,” said Stuart, who moved from New Zealand to play for Highway Cricket Club in Coventry.

“From our humble beginnings in rented offices on Westwood Business Park back in 2010 we invested £300,000 in the business, moving to new 1,500 square feet bespoke premises in Warwick Street, Earlson, and have continued to thrive since then.”

Matthew said that the key to their success was building the right team of people around them.
He commented: “The positive feedback we receive from our clients is a sign that we are moving in the right direction.

“Building on a solid reputation, we are proud that people now know where we are within the community and are aware of the many services we offer.
“We have noticed a large increase in numbers of the middle-aged clients who are looking to the future with regard to personal care or medical needs, both from a financial and legal aspect, and we have the relevant expertise to advise on these matters.”

The company offers a range of advice on retirement planning, inheritance tax planning, mortgages and investment planning, together with wills and power of attorney.
