Mintel in their Public Expenditure, Key Insights Report in August 2018 stated between mid-2016 and mid-2041, the number of over-85s is expected to double to 3.2 million, while the number of people of pensionable age is set to rise by a significant 31.5%.

Over the next 25 years, the old age dependency ratio, defined as the number of people of pensionable age for every 1,000 people of working age, is projected to rise from 305 in mid-2016 to 370 by mid-2041.
